I think The Simpsons has some difference from Japanese comedy. Characters in The Simpsons are sometimes described as extreme, for example, main character Homer breaks a car. Although they are typical middle-class family,impossible events which include irony often happen. I think the unbeliebable happenings make people laugh.
And Japanese comedy is also similar to Americans. "Chibimaruko-chan" also describes ordinary middle-class family. There is less little impossible events than it, but a popular animation for long time in Japan.
Finally, I think The Simpsons is more exaggerated than Japanese comedy.
